WEEKEND ROUNDUP

December 2020

Crediton Youth FC sides were allowed to return action following the lifting of lockdown restrictions.

The return was made extra special for the players of the Under 10 Panthers and Pumas sides who marked their return by being presented by a new kit, prior to their games away against Broadclyst Lions and Tigers.

The kit was jointly sponsored by local companies HEL, Hydro and Moore and Moore. With Keith Hopkins of Killwilljoe also kindly sponsoring substitutes suits. Again, the club is extremely grateful to these companies for their generosity and continued support during this testing season.

The U10’s sides came away with three wins and one defeat.

Other sides in action included the Under 13’s who maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 3-2 home win against West Exe Youth. With, Will Cridge grabbing two goals and Jack Brimilcombe the other. The Under 11 Cobras went down 3-2 away to West Exe Athletic and the Under 9’s Avengers and Titans had a narrow defeat and a draw away at West Exe Warriors.

UNDER 15'S ROUNDUP

December 2020

After lockdown two, we were back at football training last Tuesday evening and it was good to be back.  There were a couple of new faces to strengthen the squad – welcome back Charlie Gribble and welcome to Casey Grossett.

The training was interrupted by Simon Stevens and Chairman, Adrian Harvey, who presented us with the Roche Cup which was awarded to us as a team for our “outstanding work in the community” this year.  Dave José Hughes was the brains and driving force behind our efforts.  We raised nearly £1400 for our local NHS through a video we made during lockdown.  Thank you to Rob Stoyle at Helmores, our sponsors, for producing the video.  We also donated approximately 30 bags of shopping to the Crediton Foodbank, inspired the Marcus Rashford Campaign.  We are lucky to have José spearheading our team and encouraging us in these efforts – Thanks Dave.  Wonder what he’ll come up with next?!

Hopefully we’ll get to play our first game back since lockdown two has been lifted – away to Okehampton on Saturday.

WEEKEND ROUNDUP

October 2020

With horrendous weather forecast and a lockdown looming, Crediton Youth FC were keen to get as many games played as possible at the weekend.

The Under 14’s hosted Culm Sampford Cheetahs at Lords Meadow and played up the slope in a very tight first half. The back three defended superbly and a Ben Harvey goal just before half time put them in the driving seat.

An early goal in the second half for the opposition was soon cancelled out by a classy finish from Morgan Vincent after an excellent solo run. A clumsy challenge from a Crediton defender in the penalty box, gave Culm the chance to get back in the game. But a fine penalty save from Seth Hopkins in the Crediton goal kept the team in the game. This was Seth’s second penalty save of the season.

Christian Woodley with a long range shot put Credy back in front, and momentum then swung back their way. There only looked one winner from there on, and after a fine move and cross a fine finish from Calum Lethbridge wrapped the up the points and maintained their unbeaten start to the season.

Crediton Youth Under 8’s had to hastily rearrange their fixture owing to a Covid related withdraw from their opponents. Luckily Brixington Blues came to the rescue and brought two along two sides. Results saw the Crediton sides have one win, one draw and two defeats.
The Under 15’s were the only other side in action, as all the other sides had their games postponed. They lost their unbeaten start to the season going down 4-0 at Sidmouth.
Sunday saw the Under 16 girls put in a great team performance away at Stoke Hill and come away with a 10-1 victory. Jess Sandland leading the scoring with five, Talitha Roche and Ellen Barrow grabbing two each and Lucie Spiller with the other.
The Under 12 girls ran riot in their home fixture against Ottery St Mary and lets just say it was a convincing win!

HONOUR FOR MARTIN DANIEL

October 2020

THE Mayor of Crediton, Cllr Frank Letch, presented Crediton Town Council’s highest honour, a Town Plate, to a Crediton man for his services to youth football in the town, at a ceremony in Crediton’s Town Square this week.

Cllr Letch said of Crediton Youth FC’s Chairman, Martin Daniel: “It is our pleasure to give Martin a Town Plate.

“It shows our recognition for all the hard work he does over the years as a football coach, chairman, treasurer and secretary of Crediton Youth FC.

“The club has 250 young people on the books which is testament to his and the club’s hard work.”

Martin said: “On behalf of myself and the club, we are very honoured to be recognised.

“Crediton is a very sporting town and clubs like ours fill a void to keep young people occupied and entertained.

“We could not do what we do without the hard work of everyone at the club, players, coaches, managers and committee.

“It is their hard work which makes the club a success and I accept this award on behalf of everyone.”

Mr Daniel said that more trainers and coaches would be welcomed by Crediton Youth FC.

Mr Daniel has previously been recognised for his voluntary work to local football by the Football Association at an annual awards ceremony held at Wembley Stadium prior to a Community Shield match between Leicester City and Manchester United.

Martin had previously been presented the award for “Outstanding Contribution to Community Football” by Devon County FA and was one of six finalists present at the ceremony for its top award “The Peoples Award.”

Martin had been a stalwart of Morchard Bishop Football Club for 20 years and a manager for Crediton Youth FC for many years.

UNDER 18'S GIRLS

2020

The last Crediton Youth FC fixture of year to be played under the floodlights at Lords Meadow saw a Under 18’s Girls side take on a Barnstaple Ladies Development side.

Earlier in the season the girls had played against a Torquay United development side and lost an exciting game 6-3.

The side was made up mainly of girls who had played their youth football at Crediton, alongside a few guest players, including ex youth player Amy Salter who now plays her football at Feniton ladies.
Barnstaple brought along  a squad of around twenty players and were excited to be playing a floodlit game.
The Crediton girls fell behind to an early goal in the first few minutes, but soon settled down and started to take control of the game. Millie Robinson and Rowan Karkeek were starting to take control of the midfield, and it was not long before  an excellent  strike from Millie got Crediton back on level terms.
Confidence was now high, with Maddie Taylor and Erin Lancelles starting to get lots of space down both flanks. A shot from Rowan Karkeek  hit the cross bar and Cheyenne Coakely neatly fired the rebound in to give Crediton the lead. Soon after, Noor Rasch with a superb chip added another and not long after got her second of the night. Just before half time Tash Harvey made it 5-1 with another fine strike.
The second half started with Barnstaple being the stronger side and got a well deserved goal to pull it back to 5-2. But this spurred the Crediton girls on, and they started to get back into the game. The Barnstaple keeper made a string of fine saves before Erin Lancelles got a well deserved goal. Chloe Hartrey with a curling shot from the touch line concluded the scoring with the game ending 7-2 to the home side.
It was great to see ladies football on the main pitch at Lords Meadow with an enthusiastic crowd watching. Credit must go to both sides for a cracking game of football, which was excellently officiated by referee Martin Bovey.
Special thanks must go to Crediton United for allowing many of the youth sides,  the opportunity  to host evening fixtures under the lights at Lords Meadow.

WINNER OF EAKERS CUP

November 2020

The winner of the Eakers Cup for the best young player/outstanding contribution at Crediton United and Crediton Youth FC’s for last season went to Jess Sandland.

Jess joined Crediton Youth back in 2015, when she became part of the Under 10’s girls side, that saw girls football return to the club, after an absence of a number of seasons, and has been an integral part of that very successful side. She soon progressed to also play for the boys team at her age group, and has been an important part of that side as well.

After two seasons of being in the Devon FA girls representative side, Jess was chosen to attend an England Under 15’s girls trial, but missed out on selection to the national squad. As well as playing for Crediton Youth, Jess also had four seasons at Exeter City girls. Jess is also a qualified referee and regular helper at the clubs Wild Cat training sessions for junior girl players, and also assists with the Under 10’s girls training sessions.  She also hopes to become a level one football coach in the future.

Club Chairman Adrain Harvey said “with the growth of girls football at Crediton it is great to see Jess become the first female recipient of the Eakers Cup, and it is an excellent reward for her commitment and dedication to the club”.

THANK-YOU STUART & KAREN

The recent Saturday morning fixtures at Crediton Youth FC, gave the club a long overdue opportunity to say a big thank you, to two long standing club committee members and ex officers.

Stuart and Karen Maule joined the committee a number of years ago as their son Fraser had played his youth football at the club.. Stuart served as treasurer for many years alongside Karen, who took on the roles of secretary and tournament secretary. They brought great business and administration skills to the roles and have played a major part in the development of the club.

On their entry to the pitches at Lords Meadow, they were welcomed by a guard of honour from the Under 12,13 and 14's players who had home fixtures that morning.

Presentations of gifts were made by club Chairman Adrian Harvey and Secretary Sabrena Philp in appreciation of all their years of service. These included a framed print of the River Exe at Turf Locks and a photo album of Club Memories and other gifts.

The couple then spent the morning walking around the pitches watching the morning fixtures. They were treated to some great games, with the Under 14's winning 2-1 against Exmouth Town, the Under 13's 7-0 against Central Youth Reds and the Under 12's sharing the points with Stoke Hill in a thrilling 0-0- draw. With the news filtering through that the only other Crediton Youth side in action that morning, the U16's had won 7-1 away at Exmouth United capped another fine morning for the club.

Many coaches and committee members attended to say their farewells to the couple who hope to move to Scotland once Covid regulations allow.

Club Chairman, Adrian Harvey added "Stuart and Karen have been tremendous servants to the club, with most who have benefitted from their hard work and support being totally unaware of how much commitment they both put into the club. The committee thanks them for all their hard work, which has taken the club to it's established position it finds itself today. We wish them both all the very best for the future, and look forward to seeing them back at Lords Meadow sometime soon.
