2022 TOURNAMENT

Crediton Youth annual six-a-side was club’s biggest ever tournament

CREDITON Youth FC’s annual six-a-side tournament returned to its traditional June date after the Covid disruptions.

This year’s event was even blessed with two wonderful sunny days!

With 192 teams entered prior to the weekend it would be the club’s biggest ever tournament.

At one stage there was another 80 teams on the reserve list, which just shows the popularity and the reputation that it has gained in the South West.

The club would like to thank the many businesses that sponsor and support the tournament, especially the main sponsors A and S Paving and Crediton Dairy.

Without all their support the event would just not run.

As always, a massive thank you to Crediton Rugby Club for the use of its pitches for car parking.

The tournament sub-committee must be congratulated on all their hard work for putting on such a successful event, and to all the parents and volunteers who worked so hard to make the tournament run so smoothly.

Lisa Champ in her last tournament as entries secretary and Mike Langhorne again in charge of fixtures kept things running efficiently in the results tent.

With more than 550 games to officiate, Dan Uren and his team of around 20 referees each day should also be congratulated on the part that they played in making things run so smoothly during the weekend.

It has probably been a number of years since so many Crediton Youth sides, progressed to the later stages of the tournament.

The only actual Crediton winners were the U13 Mavericks who won their age group for the fourth consecutive occasion.

Not so fortunate were the U13 Crediton Town girls who lost 1-0 in their final against Torquay United CST and the U11 Puma’s who lost out to Ivybridge in their final.

The U9 girls also suffered final heartache as they lost out to Exmouth 1-0.

The U11 Panthers narrowly went out to Ivybridge in their semi final.

The U12 Cobras and Vipers both also went out in the semi final stage as did the U8 Wanderers on penalties.

Crediton United U13 girls also fell at the semi final stage.

Quite a few Crediton Youth sides also went out at the quarter final stage.

All in all another successful tournament for Crediton Youth FC.
